Crossing the Timeline: Is It Reasonable for Me, the God of Wealth, To Be Short on Money?
Chapter 554
Chapter 554: The Cyberpunk Style of the Slums
Su Wen was eagerly anticipating the next sub-timelines.
He was particularly curious about the tactics of the descendants. What else did they have up their sleeves?
With multiple god kings supporting him, the Star God’s life-saving crystal, and the protective boosts from two offices, how could he possibly die?
Could he really die from sheer frustration?
How could that even be possible?
What could be so infuriating that it would cause his death?
Besides, he figured that in the sub-timelines, his other self had probably already come to terms with the fact that this timeline had become a sub-timeline.
“Yuanbao, let’s go!”
Su Wen said softly, “Crossing over in true self is way too expensive, starting at ten trillion.”
“Then let’s go with the third option, the subjective consciousness experience!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Yuanbao’s figure appeared beside him in an instant.
The next moment, chaos in time and space activated.
“Crossing time limit: three hundred years.”
“Detecting…”
“Detection result: not approved!”
“Crossing time limit: three hundred and fifty years.”
“Detecting…”
“Detection result: not approved!”
“Crossing time limit: four hundred years.”
“Detecting…”
“Detection result: not approved!”
Su Wen looked at the message indicating that even with a time limit of four hundred years he was still not approved, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.
He had lived for such a long time this time?
Not bad!
It seemed that the situation in the sub-timelines shouldn’t be too terrible.
“Crossing time limit: five hundred years.”
“Detecting…”
“Detection result: approved!”
As the word "approved" flickered, a powerful gravitational pull from space instantly resonated in the air.
In a daze, Su Wen found himself entering a magnificent and unfathomable river, its dark color creating waves upon the surface.
Yet, on those barely perceptible waves, Su Wen seemed to see countless lives drifting throughout their existence.
The river of time stretches endlessly.
Yet, what makes up this vast river of time are the life experiences of every ordinary person under the endless sky.
At this moment, influenced by a force from the mysterious realm, Su Wen observed images he had never imagined before.
Countless lives, endless time, endless years, endless sky…
Everything appeared so abundant.
In the face of such time, he suddenly felt so small.
Not just him, even China, Earth, the main realm, and the universe all seemed so insignificant.
Upon reflection, they ultimately were just a part of countless lives, a single grain of sand in the great river of sand.
“Buzz!”
A black light flickered, and Su Wen, immersed in overwhelming emotion, vanished from the river of time.
When he regained his senses, he found himself on the outskirts of the Grand City.
As far as his eyes could see, the towering majestic city reached the clouds, and astonishing flying ships and mechs whirled above.
The architectural style around him gave him a rare sense of peaceful societal development.
“Five hundred years…”
Su Wen felt deeply moved, then with a thought, the mask of the Great God of Wealth disappeared, revealing his true self.
During his journey through the sub-timelines, he could finally reveal his true appearance without hiding.
“Buzz buzz buzz…”
Streams of the power of stars circled in the sky, emitting a gentle aura.
However, for some reason, sensing this gentle aura, Su Wen suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable inside.
Because of this, he did not rashly approach the circling power of stars, nor did he disturb the Star Spirits.
Five hundred years is too long!
He had no idea how much things had developed now.
Especially before he came, the Star God warned him that if the timeline of this sub-timeline extended too long, he should be extra cautious.
The descendants’ methods are pervasive.
Once he sensed anything amiss, he needed to be alert around him!
At the same time, he shouldn’t notify them in the same way as before in the sub-timelines.
Just think, if the descendants knew he had the ability to cross time and space, they might not choose a direct confrontation to gain a lot of effective information from the main Time and Space in the future.
Instead, they would use infiltration techniques to pinpoint the identity of the God of Wealth in the main Time and Space.
Then, without alarming anyone on his side, capturing him back would be their wisest decision.
So, caution is key!
Soon, Su Wen arrived near the entrance to the Grand City.
Seeing that entry required facial recognition, Su Wen frowned slightly.
Immediately, he focused his thoughts and activated the power of the charms given by Master Zhan to completely conceal his aura. These charms were designed to evade detection by even a god king. If the scanning machine in front of him managed to detect him, he’d have no choice but to admit it was impressive. That would mean that after five hundred years of progress, technology had advanced to a point where it could at least rival the power of beings like the god king. But… was that even possible?
After masking his aura and blending in with the crowd entering the Grand City, Su Wen quickly followed the energy signals to the poorest and most chaotic part of the city. If the crisis of the descendants had been resolved and the Star God had remained in the main realm, the main realm should have been thriving. Dark incidents would likely be rare, and a relatively fair system would have been perfected over countless generations. But now… the wealth gap in the Grand City was still glaring. Especially after five hundred years of open cultivation, the disparity had grown to unimaginable levels.
As Su Wen stepped into the slums, the overwhelming sense of decay hit him hard. The place had a strong cyberpunk vibe, but compared to the clean, orderly, and futuristic streets he’d seen earlier, this area felt downright shabby.
“Hmm?” Su Wen turned and noticed a young boy being kicked out of a nearby building.
“Huang Dongfeng, did you really think you could just give me the Cloud Smart Brain and then take it back whenever you felt like it?” A young man in silver-gray battle armor, his face marked with scars, swaggered out and sneered, “Since you’re here asking for my help, whether I help you or not, this thing… is mine now!”
Huang Dongfeng, the boy, clenched his teeth and shot back, “You’re shameless! That’s my family’s stall! We’ve been running it for thirty years!”
The scarred man smirked. “That’s because I wasn’t around before. Now that I’m in charge, the rules are changing.” With that, he delivered another harsh kick to Huang Dongfeng.
Su Wen watched the scene with a slight frown. He didn’t intervene, even though it was clear who the victim was. After all he’d been through, he’d learned not to trust everything he saw at face value. Besides, he could tell the scarred man wasn’t going all out. Until he secured a fake identity to use, Su Wen wasn’t about to make a move in a city with such a sophisticated surveillance system.
“Get lost!” the scarred man barked. “Next time you come with a gift, make sure you follow my rules!”
As he spoke, he tossed out a small cube. Inside, sparks flickered, clearly showing it had been wrecked beyond repair.
Huang Dongfeng struggled to his feet, picked up the damaged Cloud Smart Brain, and limped toward a nearby room. Unbeknownst to him, a traveler crossing time and space was quietly following close behind.
