Chapter 771
Chapter 771: The Odd Uncle’s Goldfish
"Comrade, you finally made it! This little girl hasn’t eaten anything for a day."
Director Jin finally showed a joyful expression as he glanced in a certain direction. According to reports, this little girl had been captured by a pilot. Although he didn’t know which “helicopter” pilot was so daring, he admired them greatly.
This capture was significant, as it brought an extraordinary treasure to the country. In the twenty-first century, what is most important? Talent! This girl was a gem, hidden away, and now she had been brought out. The organization that lost her was probably worried sick.
With his authority, he likely wouldn’t learn the real truth. If he knew that the person in front of him was the instigator and that she had been captured while piloting a jet fighter, he would be utterly astonished.
"A day without food? One more won’t hurt!"
Lin Mo smiled nonchalantly, as three days without food wouldn’t surprise him either.
The golden-haired little girl seemed to sense something. She stopped listening to the woman beside her, who had been chattering on and turned her head in confusion.
It’s that guy!
Maisha Wright’s pupils narrowed slightly. She suddenly jumped down from the chair and charged at Lin Mo with gritted teeth.
That was the voice of the person who took her laptop. Though he always wore a helmet, she would never forget that voice.
"Give me back my stuff! You bad person!"
Another "bad guy" card flew toward him fiercely. The Dragon Knight was once again wrongfully accused!
The female agent, who had been trying to persuade the girl to eat, glared at Lin Mo in frustration from a distance. She felt helpless; she was so close to success, and the girl was about to yield to hunger, but then this unexpected interruption had ruined everything.
Lin Mo nodded at Director Jin and Major Huang beside him, then bent down as if waiting for a little girl to run up for candy, casually welcoming her, "Hey! Maisha, it’s been a day; have you missed me?"
"You bad person! Bad person! Bad person…"
The golden-haired little girl started punching and kicking angrily.
She threw punches and employed various moves repeatedly but couldn’t break through the Dragon Knight’s defenses. The difference in their strength was like measuring light-years.
Breathless, Maisha suddenly stopped, her already sore fists relaxed. In front of her was no longer Lin Mo’s body but a familiar metallic surface. Though it showed some signs of wear, she recognized every scratch.
"My laptop!"
The little girl shrieked, leaping toward it as if propelled by springs, tightly hugging what was once hers.
"Ha-ha!"
Lin Mo smiled as he watched Maisha Wright take off with her laptop, rushing back to her table. Casually, he swept the various items aside and opened the screen to power it on.
The golden-haired little girl’s laptop was a custom model, powerful and quick to start. Once she entered the security interface, her hands flew across the keyboard like a storm, almost impossible to distinguish in speed.
She didn’t care that the female agent could see how she logged in; even a camera recording at a hundred frames per second would have trouble capturing her input speed.
"Undamaged! All intact!"
Maisha Wright’s expression relaxed at once as she let out a long sigh of relief, a weight lifted from her heart.
She had set specific security measures on her laptop to prevent anyone from attempting to brute-force the keys, and the inspection results showed no one had tried. This meant her laptop’s "purity" remained intact.
Just then, her stomach grumbled loudly.
"Ah! I’m hungry!"
Maisha Wright casually grabbed a fried chicken leg and shoved it into her mouth, swaying her head as her fingers danced quickly over the keys, focusing solely on the bright screen before her, with no room for anything else.
One day apart feels like three autumns; in this world, only she and the laptop remained.
This is a typical characteristic of tech enthusiasts; once they are with their beloved gadget, they forget everything else, not caring about their surroundings or who is nearby.
Well, the little girl’s hunger strike ended unexpectedly, which was to be anticipated.
Director Jin and Major Huang exchanged glances, while the female agent could only look helplessly at the unpredictable little girl. She reluctantly shifted her duties and pushed some gentle foods towards the girl to avoid any accidents with someone so immersed in the computer world.
"Thank you so much! ‘Dragon Knight’ comrade!"
Major Huang showed no interest in probing the officer’s codename; collecting secrets he shouldn’t know would only bring him trouble. He decided to treat the person as if their surname was "Dragon" and their name was "Knight."
"’Dragon Knight,’ you have really solved a big problem for us. If it weren’t for you, ha, this little girl would have given us quite a headache."
Director Jin was very pleased with this outcome; everyone was happy.
"No need to thank me; it’s what I should do."
Lin Mo nodded and continued, "The higher-ups would hope for Maisha Wright to work for us, so I want to have a few words with her. Please wait a moment."
Director Jin was curious about what approach Lin Mo would take. He nodded and said, "Oh? Go ahead! Major Huang and I will wait for your good news."
Major Huang remained silent, merely nodding in agreement.
According to standard procedure, the Chinese Government should find the little girl’s family and return her home, or arrange for her to attend a domestic school, effectively adopting her.
However, intelligence reports indicated that Maisha Wright had grown up in an orphanage. The people around her discovered her extraordinary computer talent by chance. A kind-hearted caretaker even bought her a second-hand computer out of her own pocket, and from there, everything escalated. Eventually, she was taken by an organization and vanished without a trace.
The recent intelligence tests conducted by the Chinese military showed that Maisha excelled in comprehension, thinking, and memory skills. With an almost 200 IQ, there were hardly any teachers in China who could handle her.
So, this would be a very interesting challenge.
For Director Jin, who only knew a tidbit of the test results, Lin Mo’s actions were indeed quite "interesting."
"What do you want to do?"
Before Lin Mo could approach her, Maisha Wright seemed to suddenly realize something. She shivered and clutched her laptop tightly, glaring suspiciously at Lin Mo, fearing that this bad person would take her treasure again.
Better to kill her than to keep stealing her stuff.
"You really like computers, don’t you?"
Lin Mo casually started a conversation, and for the little girl, he was almost defenseless.
"So what?"
Maisha Wright’s tone showed no sign of wavering.
"Your laptop is outdated. Don’t you want to get a new one?"
Lin Mo began to speak nonsense, knowing full well that the laptop she had was custom-made and far superior to anything available on the civilian market.
If she didn’t have some connections, it would have been hard to get Dell to create such a machine for her.
"Bah! Do you think I’m a three-year-old? Stop lying! This laptop is the most advanced in the world, even more powerful than small machines."
Indeed, she was a clever girl with a 200 IQ, rolling her eyes at Lin Mo, clearly not falling for his trick.
"Oh really?" the Dragon Knight scoffed.
"Hmph, my laptop’s processor uses…”
Since she was asking for it, Maisha Wright rattled off a series of configuration parameters, hitting Lin Mo’s ego hard. She hated him to the bone; her only regret was that she couldn’t defeat this bad guy.
If only he had a computer, she would burn it until it smoked, using one until it broke, hoping his fighter jet would get stuck in the sky.
Lin Mo wasn’t aware of the cruel curses rolling through Maisha’s mind but knew they were definitely not kind words.
After listening to Maisha’s boastful description, under her disdainful gaze, Lin Mo maintained his previous nonchalance, shaking his head. "You really are a sheltered girl, treating a brick like treasure. Tsk, your taste is quite disappointing."
"You’re talking nonsense! The processors China uses are all produced in America, right? Do you have Intel? Do you have AMD? Stop blowing smoke!"
Maisha Wright looked at Lin Mo as if he were the biggest idiot.
"Fine, forget it. This Knight has a generous spirit. I won’t argue with a little girl like you. Your laptop’s performance isn’t impressive; it’s no different from an old 286. Any random laptop would be at least a hundred times stronger than yours."
The Dragon Knight waved his hand dismissively.
"You’re lying! You’re not just a bad person; you’re a liar!"
Maisha huffed angrily and threw another "liar" card, convinced that this so-called "Dragon Knight" was definitely untrustworthy.
"Is that so? What’s it to you, little girl? How about a bet?"
