Chapter 827
Chapter 827: Spear of Destiny
Major Swark suddenly opened his eyes wide. His officer, Lieutenant Johnny, was left with only half of his body, dragging long intestines and innards from below his waist.
This terrifying scene immediately shocked everyone.
"Ma… Major Swark…"
With little breath left, Lieutenant Johnny struggled, his face smeared with blood. He sighed deeply, unwilling to accept his fate, before falling silent.
"Roar!"
A fierce beast, comparable in size to a tank, lunged at Major Swark and Mr. DuPont, exuding a menacing and bloodthirsty aura that nearly suffocated them.
The beast was soaked in blood, with severed limbs and fragments of innards hanging from its body, remnants of its gruesome kills.
Its limbs and fangs dripped with purple-black blood, seemingly accumulated from the slaughter of many humans. Its scales and hardened spikes were broken and incomplete, indicating it had sustained injuries during its attacks, yet it shook itself off, fixating its gaze on everyone.
In a thrilling twist of fate, perhaps in the minds of these two beasts, Lin Mo had been categorized as their arch-nemesis.
But when facing other humans, the bio-war beasts developed by military research showed no fear. They unleashed their claws and fangs freely, their fighting spirit exactly as designed—fearless of life and death, born solely for slaughter. They were ruthless not only to others but to themselves as well.
"Open fire! Mr. Clark, take Mr. DuPont and get out of here quickly!"
Major Swark bellowed, raising his M16 to pull the trigger, sending conical bullets spiraling out crazily. The two nearby soldiers hesitated not to open fire alongside him, even throwing grenades at such close range, undeterred by the risk of self-injury.
They could die, but Mr. DuPont must not come to harm; otherwise, it would mean a significant reduction in the compensation his family would receive, as everyone fought against the beasts until the last moment, fearless of death.
The beast seemed to have adapted to the light weapon fire. Human muscle density is three times that of fat, while the muscle density of these bio-war beasts was ten times that of humans. Their massive and heavy forms were filled with terrifying explosive power.
Dense muscles prevented bullets from penetrating deeply after breaching their scales, which also resulted in astonishing defense capabilities against small-caliber light weapons.
Yet, with only conventional weapons, Major Swark and the American soldiers had no retreat, only grit their teeth and keep firing.
Mr. DuPont’s loyal aide, Clark, proved his loyalty. He grabbed Mr. DuPont’s body, wielding a Desert Eagle pistol, shooting at the beast while struggling to move away from the danger.
A gust of iron-scented wind swept through as the two soldiers standing beside Major Swark remained silent, only to be instantly turned into mush by the beast’s strike. Major Swark felt like a train had crashed into him, sending him flying through the air.
In mid-flight, he could even hear the loud crack of his ribs, arms, and thigh bones breaking, propelled over ten meters before rolling on the ground for several rounds, finally losing momentum and collapsing helplessly, the extreme pain piercing him to his core, nearly rendering him unconscious.
But out of duty, Major Swark forced himself to stay conscious, desperately searching for Clark and Mr. DuPont.
He quickly found their position, and upon seeing it, despair gripped him entirely.
The mountain-sized fierce beast stared intently at Mr. DuPont, who was half sitting on the ground, his face filled with terror as he braced himself. Meanwhile, Mr. Clark lay lifeless nearby, unable to tell if he was alive or dead.
Roar!
The terrifying roar of the beast seemed capable of extinguishing a person’s soul. Even the seasoned Mr. DuPont trembled involuntarily, realizing the gravity of life and death; he regained clarity, struggling to control his emotions to prevent himself from completely losing control.
The ferocious beast eyes stared coldly at the gray-haired elder, slowly opening its massive maw filled with fangs stained with blood and bits of flesh, and lunged at him.
"Oh God, I praise you, my Lord!"
Mr. DuPont tightly closed his eyes, offering his final heartfelt prayer of life.
A chilling wind rushed toward him.
His body tensed, and suddenly the world went silent.
The beast’s roar faded, and the sharp fangs that pierced his body, tearing through his insides, caused him no pain.
Death truly happened in an instant. It wasn’t as terrifying as he thought; in fact, this wasn’t a bad thing—not much suffering at all.
Had he arrived in heaven? Why could he still smell the foul odor of the fierce beast?
Mr. DuPont slowly opened his eyes and was startled to see a fierce beast with a mouth full of sharp teeth lunging toward him, barely a foot away.
"Ah! What is happening?!"
Could it be that the beast had relentlessly followed him to heaven? This was simply unbearable.
Mr. DuPont forgot his fear as he suddenly noticed something unusual. The beast’s brow seemed to have a very familiar feature.
"Longinus? How is this possible?" Mr. DuPont couldn’t help but widen his eyes, staring at the tip of the Longinus spear. The giant beast’s eyes lost their ferocity and appeared completely listless, devoid of life.
The massive body of the beast, like a balloon, was lifted high, then tossed aside. With a thunderous crash, it collapsed helplessly on the ground, no longer a threat to humanity.
"Who… are you?"
Mr. DuPont was astonished to see a man with a silver-black patterned mask standing not far from him. One hand held a great sword while the other smoothly withdrew the Longinus spear from the back of the beast’s head, casually flicking it to shake off the blood and brain matter without a trace.
Equipped for both close and long-range attacks, this powerful warrior had easily killed the fierce beast with just one thrust of Longinus. Who was this person?
Unable to control himself, Mr. DuPont propped himself up and retreated, his fear not diminishing. The pressure this man exuded exceeded that of the beast.
Who was he, and why did he have his Longinus spear? Mr. DuPont was filled with questions.
If he and Mr. Ross had entered the gladiatorial arena five minutes earlier, perhaps he would have recognized this man as the challenger from today’s Scarlet Underground Gladiatorial Arena, code-named "Dragon," a formidable warrior and the new executioner born from the "crystal cage."
This was also Mr. DuPont’s fortune. Had he not sensed something amiss and chosen to escape through a different passage, he and the manor’s owner, Mr. Ross, might have faced the beast’s wrath.
"What a fine weapon!"
The Dragon Knight assessed the weightless spear in his hand, shaking the five-pointed star-shaped flower at its tip, which instantly caused a thunderous crack in the air.
Previously, the spear had easily penetrated the beast’s skull, its tip astonishingly sharp, and the Battle Energy attached to it freely coursed through the spear’s body, exploding within the beast’s head without any loss of power.
The long spear’s performance surpassed any artifact capable of withstanding battle energy, yet it bore no magical runes or crystals on its surface, leaving its material a mystery. For the Dragon Knight, it was indeed an exceptional close-quarters weapon on the battlefield.
Lin Mo paid no mind to the white-haired old man in front of him who had luckily escaped with his life—a powerless civilian. Saving him was merely one of the tenets of knightly spirit.
One hand holding the sword and the other grasping the spear, he turned without hesitation, needing to find Bob and his family quickly. He planned to use the "safety ring" remote to unlock that dangerous collar, allowing him to finally rest easy.
"Wait! That Longinus spear is mine!"
Mr. DuPont exclaimed, filled with urgency, unwilling to see the artifact he had sacrificed so much to acquire vanish right before his eyes. This was robbery, a blatant act of opportunism.
While grateful for the rescue, Mr. DuPont would rather offer ten billion or eight million dollars to repay the man than allow him to take the spear as a reward without consent.
"Hmm! Longinus? So that’s your name! Good name! I’ll call you Longinus from now on."
Lin Mo seemed not to hear Mr. DuPont’s words, not turning around or stopping. He casually waved the four-meter-long Longinus spear, its lightness allowing it to cut through the air with a hauntingly long, eerie whistle.
Smack!
Suddenly, a strange sound emanated from a nearby Rolls-Royce luxury car.
Mr. DuPont gasped and immediately shut his mouth, his face paling even more. He clearly saw that the stranger had simply waved the Longinus spear toward the Rolls-Royce from ten meters away, leaving a deep dent that nearly penetrated the vehicle’s body.
What was this? An invisible blade? Was it magic or something else?
Mr. DuPont could only watch helplessly as the man took away his treasure, fearing that he might casually swing the Longinus spear again and slice him in half, which would be even worse.
"Gold Coin, what are you doing? Are you dead? If you’re still alive, make a sound!"
Lin Mo scanned the area as if speaking to himself. The gold giant dragon, upon gripping the spear, had suddenly plunged into it without warning but had not responded since.
Rumblings like distant thunder grew closer, and the Dragon Knight gazed at the sky, sensing the approach of aircraft—possibly jet fighters.
The commotion at the manor had been substantial, attracting many wealthy individuals and social elites. The massacre unleashed by the fierce beast made it impossible for the U.S. Military to remain unaware.
