Flirting with the World
Chapter 2
Lin was dumbfounded as she quickly recalled her rough love life in the past twenty years.
Her childhood sweetheart who was her follower for six years and moved to Japan with his family. They separated in different places and never contacted each other again.
Her senior whom she had a crush on in middle school was involved in a vicious fight after confessing and was forced to transfer schools. They fell in love quickly and broke up even faster.
A young professor flirted with her in university and they were about to enter the dating stage, but the professor's sexual harassment scandal was exposed and his reputation was ruined.
To sum it up, as long as someone was liked by Lin, they would be unlucky in the end. They would be done for!
This had been a sore point in her heart for many years. The sense of shame and inferiority that lurked in the depths of her heart had caused her to always be in a passive position when interacting with others. On one hand, she had resigned herself to the environment around her. She could endure the oppression of her mentors, the exploitation of her partners, and the bullying of her peers. On the other hand, it had also caused her to have an almost morbid sense of beauty. Lin had almost no resistance against handsome men older than her.
For example, this big boss in front of her, standing in the afterglow of the setting sun and looking into her eyes, captured her heart in an instant.
"Girlfriend?
Uh, okay, no problem. "Lin answered casually. After being single for so many years, she almost forgot what a girlfriend meant.
The big boss's expression didn't change, as if this straightforward answer was within his expectations. Instead, it was the two followers beside him who laughed first.
Lin looked at them and was completely stunned.
One was the Elf Prince from Middle Earth. He had blond hair and blue eyes, and his smile was mesmerizing. The other's eyes were bright but lifeless, his smile was gentle, and his white robe fluttered in the wind.
The two stood together and smiled gently. Everything in the world lost its color.
Lin's heart skipped a beat. She was stunned and asked the first person, "Are you the Legolas?"
The Legolas bowed slightly to her and said in fluent Chinese with a smile, "Nice to meet you, Miss Lin Ke-er."
"You … you know me?"
Lin was stunned. She reached out to touch the Elf Prince's pointed ears and said in disbelief, "Am I dreaming?"
The Legolas replied with a smile, "I hope this is a sweet dream."
Lin covered his head with one hand and was stunned for a while. He turned around and asked the man in white, "Looking at your temperament, could it be that you are my favorite Hua Manlou?"
The white-clothed man pursed his lips and smiled. "Smart. As expected of an Artisan."
Lin Dao said, "You're exactly the same as the Hua Manlou I imagined!"
Hua Manlou said, "Miss, you're even cuter than I imagined."
After receiving blessings and compliments from Legolas and Hua Manlou one after another, Lin was already on cloud nine. She looked at the big shot standing between the Legolas and Hua Manlou — her current boyfriend. She asked nervously, "What about you?
Who are you? "
The big boss looked at her quietly and did not say anything.
He had a unique temperament, a bit like a prodigal son who didn't return from a long journey. His gestures were full of elegance and sloppiness. He also looked like someone who had been waiting for a long time. Between his eyebrows, there was a heart-breaking light.
Meow jumped down from the big shot's shoulder. When it landed, it had already transformed into a little boy in a suit. It was elegant and arrogant, with its hands behind its back.
"Noob, such a bad eyesight!"
Zheng Tai said arrogantly, "Standing in front of you is the system's number one player, the Valyrian Guild's President, the Middle Earth's Bloody Rain Martial Arts Community player —"
"Undead."
Lin and Meow said his name at the same time. Everyone's eyes fell on Lin. Some were surprised, some were doubtful, some were puzzled, and some were curious.
Lin had only heard the people in front of the square mention this name before and paid attention to it. She didn't expect to guess right.
Undead raised her eyebrows and said faintly, "Just call me Big Brother."
Lin hesitated for a moment, "… Big Brother."
Undead: "Good, baby."
Lin: "…"
"Miss Lin, can you please open your right hand?" Hua Manlou said.
Lin Yiyan stretched out her right hand and opened her palm.
Hua Manlou took the fan and gently touched Lin's palm. A light shot out from Lin's palm, projecting a screen like a game interface.
In the middle of the screen, a line of words was displayed: "Welcome, Artisan!"
Lin frowned. Did this mean that her code name in the system was "Artisan"?
The player named by the system to be welcomed?
Lin raised his eyes and obtained confirmation from Undead's eyes.
Hua Manlou: "We guessed right."
Meow: "Of course, the natives have always been accurate in predicting the identity of the player. Not to mention, this isn't an ordinary player."
Hua Manlou: "Fortunately, we found it first."
Meow raised its chin, looking extremely arrogant, "According to the current trend, the Valyrian Guild's domination of Earth is just around the corner."
Legolas: "Welcome."
Lin was confused, "What are you talking about?"
Everyone stared at her and laughed. Undead said, "They want to invite you to join the Valyrian Guild, but you're my girlfriend, so naturally you're already a member of the guild."
"Okay."
Lin spread out her hands, "Although it's a surprise to see three handsome men in the beginning, you have to tell me who I am, where I am, and what I'm doing."
The air seemed to freeze. Meow suddenly said, "Four."
Lin was expressionless, "Three and a half, you're at most half."
Undead threw away the cigarette in its hand and turned around, "We can discuss your question back at the guild."
The Valyrian Guild, the representative of the strongest guild in the ghost system, took its name from the Western fantasy classic "Song of Ice and Fire". Just like the Legolas came from Middle Earth and Hua Manlou came from Gu Long's pen, Lin was no stranger to these names. It could even be said that she was once obsessed with them.
The guild's stronghold was on the top floor of the World Trade Center, which was the highest place on the stone island. From the top floor, one could see the entire island.
Lin changed into dry clothes, stood by the window, and took a cup of hot coffee. Her eyes moved from the opera house outside to the house.
Undead sat down on the sofa opposite her, lit a cigarette, and went straight to the point, "What's the last memory you have before you entered the system?"
The sweetness of the coffee lingered on the tip of her tongue. Lin quietly stared at Undead and fell into deep thought.
Meow snuggled into the blanket on the sofa, Hua Manlou went into the tea room alone, and Legolas was looking at a map on the wall.
On the map was the Lonely Mountain, the place where the Hobbit and Smaug fought.
Lin found that every decoration in this house was interesting. The bookshelf was in the style of Harry Potter, there was a random golden cudgel next to it, Mjolnir was used as a bookstand, the sink was exactly the same as the Taj Mahal, and the conference table was a copy of "The Last Supper" …
This was a two-dimensional feast, not to mention the two living people, Legolas and Hua Manlou.
Lin looked around and completely forgot about Undead. Instead, she came to an irrelevant conclusion: this was a very interesting world, and she seemed to like it here.
Of course, except for the Skinners.
Undead was a little unhappy. He put out the cigarette in his hand, leaned back on the sofa, and stared at Lin with his chin raised.
Lin held Winnie the Pooh's coffee cup and smiled at him, "What did you just ask?"
"Baby, you're so easily immersed in your own world." Undead said, "Have you forgotten everything?"
Lin frowned and did not say a word.
Undead said, "You said that you don't know where you are. That's not right. Before players log into the system, they have to sign a life and death contract. It's very important. No one doesn't know why they're in this world."
Lin said sincerely, "I really don't know."
Undead looked at Lin and thought for a while, "Take a few minutes to introduce yourself."
Lin said, "Lin Ke-er, 23 years old, Ph.D. in computer science, currently researching AI simulation technology …"
"Wait a minute!
How old did you say you were? "
"… 23?"
Undead was silent for a while, "You need to understand this world from our point of view."
"First of all, you have to know that you've entered the ghost system. This place is full of danger at all times. If you lose your life here, the consequences will be unimaginable. You may never be able to return to the real world."
Lin did not dare to think about the ghosts she had seen along the way. If she had not met Undead in time, she might have been torn apart by the hanged ghost.
"Valyria is the strongest guild in the system, and I'm the number one player in the system. I'm the most suitable person to protect you."
Lin wanted to laugh when she heard this, but when she met Undead's eyes, such a domineering CEO's words sounded so appropriate and reasonable.
She did not refute, and Undead continued to explain, "The system is composed of many worlds. After completing the current quest line, you can enter the next world. The higher the completion rate of the quest, the higher the player's ranking and prestige in the system."
"This is easy to understand." Lin said, "It's just like clearing a game."
Undead nodded, and the two looked at each other for a while. Lin Dao said, "Is there anything else to say?"
Undead: "We'll talk about the specifics during the mission."
Lin thought for a while and asked, "After completing all the missions, can I return to the real world?"
Undead looked at her and asked, "Are you very attached to the real world?"
Lin smiled and thought of the research project that she was halfway through.
"To be honest, there's no one in the real world that I care about." Lin Dao said, "This place seems good, but I don't know if I can sleep in peace."
Undead looked at her and said calmly, "In my territory, you can sleep as long as you want."
Lin smiled faintly.
Legolas could not help but ask, "Aren't you concerned about why you're here?"
Lin said coldly, "From your reaction, this question won't be answered in a short time. Why waste my energy?"
Legolas: "…" They could not refute her words.
"Good night." Lin entered the bedroom and fell asleep immediately. In a moment, her consciousness was blurry.
