The Place Nearest to You

Chapter 6

Patrolling with Okita was definitely different from patrolling with Eikura; it wasn't just the difference between A long queue and a second division. Ando had a hunch that she would definitely run into a big case this time.

Ever since she had become a police officer, she had been living a leisurely life. When she had nothing to do, she would stroll around the streets like a retired old man.

No wonder Kagura often called them tax thieves, and even told her to leave Shinsengumi and join Yorozuya.

Ando smiled bitterly. Actually, the things that she often dealt with were no different from Kagura's. Sometimes, they would even run into each other and work together to complete cases.

Kagura's boss was ridiculously lazy, and it looked like they often didn't even know what to eat. Ando had worried for her before, and tried to persuade her to join Shinsengumi. At the very least, Shinsengumi could basically solve the problem of food and clothing, and she didn't have to worry about money.

However, she had refused with a straight face, saying that Little Silver couldn't live without her.

A good-for-nothing uncle couldn't live without a little girl – that was something that only a child would say.

Of course, Ando didn't say this out loud, and just smiled noncommittally.

Only one's feet would know if the shoes fit. Similarly, only one could feel if they lived well in an environment and if they were happy.

Ando liked Shinsengumi. Even if they were called tax thieves, she truly felt their feelings of protection, and felt the warmth of a home.

So, no matter how exaggerated Kagura's expressions were to describe how vile Sogo Okita's character was, Ando just smiled.

She knew that Kagura and Okita didn't see eye to eye, and would always fight when they ran into each other; it was probably because their personalities were incompatible.

"But this kid is very strong, Arroux." In the end, Kagura still came to this conclusion.

Countless people had already told her that Okita was very strong, so Ando cherished this opportunity to go on a patrol with Okita even more.

However, when she put on her uniform and waited for a long time before she saw Okita in casual clothes, her head was full of question marks.

"Why are you dressed like this?" Okita looked at her and said, "Go change into Xiao Xin's clothes."

"Oh."

Ando didn't ask why. He rushed back to his room to change his clothes, silently complaining about why he didn't tell him earlier.

When she returned to Okita's side, she was already dressed in men's clothing and looked quite heroic.

Okita was satisfied with the speed at which she changed her outfit. He nodded and said, "If you don't look at the chest, you look like a man."

Ando's face turned red.

Seeing that the other party's expression was calm, without the slightest trace of wretchedness, he thought that he was still too young.

She whispered, "Then what should we do?"

Okita said indifferently, "It's fine. There are men with big breasts."

Ando's face turned red and she had to change the topic. "Captain Okita, where are we going today?"

"Don't call me captain today." Okita looked down at her and said with a bewitching voice, "Call me Senior Okita."

Ando took a step back. She felt a dangerous aura, but she still nodded and called very obediently, "Senior Okita."

Okita smiled with satisfaction. "Aiya, I really miss the time when that bastard Hijikata called me Senior Okita."

"Idiot, there was never such a time!"

Hijikata appeared out of nowhere. He was also dressed casually. He glanced at Ando and said, "You really want to take her?"

Okita smiled and didn't answer.

Did he mean that she didn't know how to use her eyes?

Ando greeted Hijikata, "Nice to meet you, Deputy Captain."

She thought that it was just her and Okita, but she didn't expect Hijikata to go with them. Did this mean that they were going to deal with a big case?

Thinking of this, she felt a surge of indescribable excitement in her heart.

"Okay." Although Hijikata didn't want Ando to get involved in their operation, there was nothing he could do.

After all, in the entire Shinsengumi, Sogo Okita was the only person he couldn't control and always caused trouble for him.

"Let's go." Okita curled his lips and revealed a mischievous smile.

Ando, who was attentive, noticed it and was puzzled. However, she soon forgot about Sogo Okita's mysterious smile.

The place where Okita Okita brought her to was a ladyboy's inn. It was noisy and bustling.

Ando frowned. This was the first time she had been to such a place.

There were both men and women here. She didn't understand why Okita asked her to dress up as a man.

She looked around and saw a black-haired beauty in a purple dress twisting her body on the stage. She was so beautiful that it was hard to imagine that she was a man in disguise.

Closest to the stage was a group of "beasts in human clothing", the Heavenly People that Ando hated the most.

"You seem to hate them. You can't even hide your murderous intent."

Okita poured a glass of orange juice for himself and Ando, while Hijikata's glass was filled with bubbling beer.

Ando looked down, took a sip of the orange juice, cleared her throat and said, "They're too ugly to not hate."

"Then you should hate Mr. Hijikata too, right?"

Okita said seriously, "In terms of appearance, Mr. Hijikata should be the ugliest person in Shinsengumi, right?"

"No …" Ando's rebuttal was drowned out by Hijikata's "Sogo, you bastard".

Ando could only take another sip of the orange juice.

She really couldn't understand why their boss was so irritable.

However, it seemed that Senior Okita was very happy.

He easily dodged Hijikata's fist and sipped the orange juice. Hijikata was so angry that he wanted to punch him, but he couldn't hit him.

Ando covered her face.

Didn't the Vice Captain feel embarrassed?

"Sogo, can you let me hit you? Just once," Hijikata said in a negotiating tone.

"No," Okita replied calmly.

…

In the end, Hijikata could only drink all the beer in one gulp to vent his anger.

After so long, he still couldn't learn that if he couldn't resist, he should just enjoy it.

No, maybe this kind of resistance was where he and Sogo Okita found pleasure.

As the song ended, the beauty in purple on the stage stopped twisting her body. The fan in her hand covered half of her face, revealing a pair of flirtatious eyes.

At this time, Okita raised his arm and said in his unique lazy voice, "Hey, Mr. Hijikata said that no one here can beat him in drinking."

"Hey, Sogo, what are you talking about?" Hijikata frowned when he saw that everyone was looking at him.

"Give that gentleman a dozen beers, it's on me." Sure enough, a customer raised his eyebrows, as if he didn't agree, and taunted Hijikata with a dozen beers.

This made the waiter very happy, and he immediately called a few beauties to serve Hijikata. The people around them also gave Hijikata a few dozen beers.

"Hey, hey, hey, I didn't …" Before he could finish, Hijikata's mouth was filled with beer.

"Mr. Hijikata, enjoy it."

As the culprit, Okita didn't feel guilty at all. On the contrary, he was very interested in any way to mess with Hijikata.

But today, he couldn't see Hijikata's painful expression, which made him feel a bit regretful.

"This …" Ando pulled Okita's sleeve, "Senior Okita, Vice Captain, is this okay?" She obviously didn't know what Okita was thinking.

Okita grabbed her wrist and said in a good mood, "Let's go now."

"Huh?"
