Chapter 3
Xuanzang had a rare dream that day.
He dreamed of a white fog, and the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara with her own holy white light walked in front of him. "Xuanzang."
Xuanzang hurriedly bowed and had a strange feeling.
Avalokitesvara said sympathetically, "Is the disciple I picked for you useful?"
"Huh?" Xuanzang was confused. "What disciple?"
Avalokitesvara said, "It's that Monkey King.
I ordered him to be your disciple and protect you to get the scripture.
Didn't he recognize you? "
Xuanzang lowered his head. Wukong didn't mention this at all …
"This monkey is full of tricks. He must be bullying you."
Avalokitesvara frowned slightly. "Tomorrow morning, you have to show your master's dignity and reprimand him."
Xuanzang thought that he wouldn't dare. Then he heard Avalokitesvara say, "I have a treasure here called the Tightening Hoop. Put it on him and he will listen to you. He won't dare to resist."
Xuanzang was suddenly energized. "What treasure?"
An exquisite brocade hat appeared in Avalokitesvara's hand. "This is it."
Xuanzang thanked Avalokitesvara and took it in confusion. Avalokitesvara said, "There will be many disasters along the way. It doesn't matter if this disciple isn't satisfactory, there are a few more."
Xuanzang wasn't very surprised. Instead, he was a little distressed. "There are more disciples?
I'm afraid I can't control them … "
Avalokitesvara comforted him. "This monkey is the only one who is different. The others are fine.
Come, sit down. I'll teach you how to use this. "
Xuanzang sat cross-legged and listened to Avalokitesvara teach him a spell. He recited it a few times. Avalokitesvara asked, "Do you remember it?"
"Got it," he replied.
Avalokitesvara nodded and retreated back into the white fog. His consciousness was getting more and more blurry, but he was still chanting the incantation instinctively.
The next morning, he woke up with a start. He sat on the bed and rubbed his eyes, trying to recall the dream he had last night. He had not forgotten a single word of the incantation that Avalokitesvara had taught him. He could recite it smoothly.
"You still have to do homework in the morning?
She's been chanting non-stop. "
The Monkey King's voice came from beside his bed. He was already dressed neatly, and the stick that never left his body was gone. In its place was a brocade hat.
Wait a minute, brocade hat?
Xuanzang was still slowly coming to his senses, wondering why it looked so familiar. "How did you find it?"
Monkey King seemed to be in a good mood. "I saw it by your pillow this morning. Why? Did you secretly do this when I wasn't around?"
"I didn't do it." Xuanzang tilted his head and looked at the hat. "But it looks really nice. Why don't you try it?"
Monkey King nodded slightly. He had already put the brocade hat on his head. The size was just right, and it was unusually comfortable.
"It fits." Xuanzang woke up from his half-awake state. "Bodhisattva gave it to me."
Monkey King's hand that was adjusting the hat paused. "What did you say?!"
"Well, Bodhisattva gave it to me in my dream. I had a dream last night." Xuanzang mumbled. "I didn't expect to be given something in a dream …"
Monkey King's face darkened. He wanted to take off the hat, but found that he couldn't.
"Bodhisattva also said …" Xuanzang smiled and said, "He wants you to be my disciple, so I'm your master."
Monkey King responded coldly with an "Oh" again.
What should I do? He doesn't seem to want to be my disciple …
Seeing that he wasn't particularly angry, Xuanzang plucked up his courage. "Why didn't you tell me?
Don't you want to be my disciple?
Actually, it doesn't matter if you call me master. I won't force you to become a monk, and I won't force you to recite scriptures, but … "
"Take this thing off for me!"
Monkey King didn't listen to him at all. His attention was all on his head. The comfortable brocade hat just now had become a shiny golden hoop that was tightly attached to his head. He couldn't take it off no matter how hard he tried. He was so angry that he scolded, "You dare to accept something from Avalokitesvara?
That guy has never had good intentions!
You didn't even tell me?! "
He had an extremely ominous feeling. This wasn't a good thing. He had to take it off.
"What's wrong? What's wrong?"
Xuanzang hurriedly jumped off the bed and reached out to help him. He felt wronged and said, "I-I-I didn't think of it just now. I just thought it looked weird. Don't blame me."
He didn't mind that Monkey King had slapped his hand away. He thought for a moment and said, "Bodhisattva taught me a chant. Let me try it out."
"Recite it," Monkey King blurted out. He was suspicious. Why would Avalokitesvara be so kind as to teach him the chant?
There must be something strange!
Before he could stop him, he heard the little monk chanting scriptures. It was supposed to be pleasant to the ears, but now it was as annoying as a fly. At the same time, his head was tightly strangled and he felt an intense pain. The hoop seemed to have grown thorns and was stationed on his head, poking into his scalp, flesh, and brain. He was in so much pain that he almost knelt on the ground.
Xuanzang saw his expression change. He looked ferocious and almost rolled on the ground. He quickly stopped and went over to help him up. "What's wrong? What's wrong?
Is it wrong?
I read it wrong. There's nothing wrong with it … "
"You …" Monkey King's face turned pale. He threw him to the ground. "Are you still pretending?"
Xuanzang didn't care about rubbing his sore spot. He was scared and confused. He looked at the other party timidly. "What are you pretending for?"
"Ha."
Monkey King stood up and pointed at him with a trembling finger. "You and Avalokitesvara worked together to deceive me. You wanted to use this thing to control me?!
Good, good, good! "
He said the word "good" three times in a row. His expression was terrifyingly cold. Xuanzang felt that he would be beaten to death in the next second.
He was wronged for the first time. Tears welled up in his eyes. His face was red as he tried to explain himself. "Monks don't lie. I've never lied to anyone. Why would I work together with Bodhisattva to deceive you?"
"You weren't the one who lied to me just now?
You're still quibbling! "
Monkey King had already flashed his stick and pointed it at him. "I'll beat you to death for breaking the precepts!"
"I didn't!
I won't break the precepts!
I grew up in a temple. How would you understand … "Xuanzang argued loudly. His tears were about to fall at any time." Even if you beat me to death, you also … "
With a loud bang, the stick landed on the ground next to him, creating a deep pit. Large and small chunks of dirt fell on him, but he didn't feel it at all.
Xuanzang stared at Monkey King in a daze. He saw a pair of eyes that were as cold as winter.
He didn't dare to move or breathe loudly. He didn't even dare to turn his head to look at the pit.
He wasn't exaggerating. That stick could make him lose a layer of skin just by rubbing it. He could crush him to death by plucking a hair.
If it really hit him just now, he would probably be a bloody mess.
Monkey King walked to his side step by step and looked down at him. He was full of hostility. "Do you want to try?"
He raised the stick, but his face was covered by a shadow. Xuanzang was so scared that he closed his eyes. In a moment of desperation, he chanted the incantation Avalokitesvara taught him.
"Ah —" With a scream, Monkey King dropped the stick and rolled on the ground with his head in his hands. He crashed into the wall.
"I didn't do it on purpose …" Xuanzang realized what he had done. He stopped and wiped his tears with his sleeve. "Don't hit me. Let's talk nicely. I'll go with you to find the Bodhisattva …"
He didn't finish his sentence because the stick automatically pressed against his forehead. It was as cold as its owner's eyes.
His whole body went soft and trembled. He couldn't suppress his fear.
There was a dead silence. It was as if time had stopped.
"Master?" Monkey King stared at him for a long time. Finally, he mocked him mercilessly. "Do you know who my master is?
You want to be my master?
Are you worthy? "
He slammed the door and left. Xuanzang hurriedly got up and ran out, but he couldn't see him anymore.

After apologizing to the owner of the house again and again, Xuanzang took out what little money he had left as compensation and chanted the incantation for the whole morning. Only then did he continue on his journey with his horse and luggage.
His goal was the Western Paradise, so he just had to keep going west.
It had only been a day, but his disciple had run away again. It seemed that Wukong wouldn't come back to help him obtain the scriptures.
Xuanzang felt wronged. As he walked, he thought that if he hadn't made Wukong wear that hat, how good would it be? Who knew that it was such a torturous thing?
He walked for half a day and saw that the sky was dark again. He didn't see a single house, so he found a rock and sat down. At worst, he would sleep in the wilderness tonight. If there were fierce beasts, so be it. At worst, he would be eaten. At worst, he didn't have the fate of obtaining the scriptures.
He picked up the steamed cornbread that the family had given him at noon. It was dry and cold and had to be mixed with the stream water. Fortunately, he didn't care about food. He quickly swallowed it and barely filled his stomach.
The white horse raised its hooves and neighed.
Xuanzang guessed that it was hungry. He looked around and led the white horse to the woods not far away. "I don't see any grass. Try the leaves. Do you want to eat them?"
The autumn wind was bleak, and the woods were full of fallen leaves. He picked up a green leaf and put it near the white horse's mouth.
The white horse snorted through its nose. It seemed dissatisfied, but it still ate it.
Xuanzang found some edible leaves for the white horse. He was lost in thought as he searched. He thought of the stick on his head. It was like walking on the edge of life and death.
Why did he have such a strong reaction to Bodhisattva?
If he hated him so much, why did he promise Bodhisattva to protect him?
Wukong's terrifying aura was not fake. It was obvious that he wanted to kill him …
He didn't expect that he would really kill him.
Xuanzang could still feel the soul-stirring feeling of death lingering around him. Tears streamed down his face. It was too terrifying!
Too scary!
Please give him a gentle disciple!
